This session discusses several
optional active directory integrated services that are very
beneficial to the educational environment. We will be discussing
Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) used for managing
Windows/Microsoft Office product updates, Windows Deployment
Services (WDS) used for imaging client workstations, Volume Shadow

your environment.
AJAX using
jQuery

(AJAX) allows the web developer to develop rich internet
applications that allow for dynamic updates of the page from an
external database. The allows AJAX applications to behave more like
desktop applications than traditional web sites. This session will
incorporate jQuery into the process.
Automating your District with a Student Mgmt System: An implementation of
PMS
Presenter: Abe Loveless, Curtis McKay
Do you have a Student Mgmt System in
your school? Do you have other computer systems that are essential
to your day to day functions? Do these systems talk to each other?
Automatically? What about Active Directory integration? Using a
collection of processes, affectionately called PMS (Poor Man’s
Systems Automation),
we can help you automate some of these functions. Move data from one
system to another, automate import processes, and even create
usernames/passwords in Active Directory… we’ll show how we do these
functions in our district – without spending the money on an
“official” SIF implementation.

required to make these presentations a success.
Building a Business
Model for K-12 IT

K-12 technology has a long history of
being underfunded, understaffed and overextended. Much of this is
because district IT has not been recognized as a vital,
mission-critical function by district administration and the school
board. This session will discuss the eSchool News/SchoolDude.com/CoSN
2008 Survey: The Unique Challenges Facing the IT Professional in
K-12 Education and will work on identifying the role of the K-12
Information Technology in the organization and developing a business
model to justify its needs.

The Great Data
Warehouse Bakeoff
Presenter: CPSI/Mizuni/Decision Ed Group
Data Warehouses are becoming a
concern to both smaller and larger districts as they are trying to
collect and then report on the data they have. Multiple
vendors will have 20-30 minutes to present their product and how it
differs from the competition. At the end of their mini-session
every participant will rotate to another vendor till at the end of
the full session the participant has heard from every vendor.
It is important to understand the basics of what a Data Warehouse is
as this session is more to show off the differing products compared
to explaining the basics of a Data Warehouse.

Fitness and Wellness
for Geeks

Course Description:
What one thinks as of as the "typical" geek lifestyle is not a
healthy lifestyle. The long term results of long hours at a

diminished quality of life. According to Sally Fields, you've only
got one body. It's time to do something about it.
GGGGG
Gimp

Illini Data &
Integrity Schools – Decision Support Solution
Presenter: Integrity Schools
Data-based decision making is
essential to school improvement efforts to increase student
achievement! The purpose of this session is to demonstrate how
teachers and administrators using the Illini Data decision support
solution can access and use data to make decisions that lead to
school improvement and increased student achievement. This is only a
starting point in the need for data analysis to identify the
achievement gaps that exist and provide a data system that can drill
down to the student level to analyze factors that may affect
individual student performance. Data needs to be provided in a
timely manner, with organized structure to create a culture of
continuous improvement.
The IlliniData system is a portal and data warehouse solution
designed to provide: 1) a consolidated view of daily operational
data coming from multiple disparate sources: a productive portal for
staff to access student data with the data warehouse components, and
2) a resource for the statistical analysis on historical test scores
and grade data tied to curricular objectives and standards that can
be used at the district, building, class, and individual student
level.
The Great Interactive
Whiteboard Bakeoff
Presenters: Smart/Mimio/Promethean/Hitachi
If you are like most Illinois
districts, you have been spending a considerable amount of time
installing interactive whiteboards, or you are looking at what’s the
best one for your situation. It can get confusing, so the TechFeast
is bringing together several of the major interactive whiteboard
vendors to one location for a “bake-off”. Vendors from Smart, Mimio,
Hitachi, and Promethean will be in separate rooms in a 20 minute “speed
dating” style presentation to highlight what differentiates their
solution from the competition. We welcome any TechFeast participants
to bring a curriculum person, teacher or administrator to this
session free of charge. It’s a great way to earn some Feast bucks
and learn about whiteboard differences.

Identity Management
Automation
Presenter: Mark Wefer
Creating, maintaining, and
ultimately removing computer accounts for thousands of students and
hundreds of employees across multiple applications and then ensuring
the user only has access rights to what they are entitled is a major
task for educational institutions. Automating these tasks reduces
costs because everything is done according-to-the-book and
troubleshooting is seldom necessary. Find out how Heartland
Community College does it!

Manipulating CSV files
with PHP
Presenter: Mark Drone
This session will demonstrate how to
use the TM::MyCSV PHP class, which handles standard CSV or TXT text
files as if they where database tables. It supports most benefits of
both SQL tables and PHP arrays. It doesn't need a real database
management system nor does it require any knowledge of the SQL
language. It hides all file system functions so you don't have to
deal with file pointers, field delimiters, escape sequences and so
on. Because it uses the widespreaded standard CSV file format, you
are able to create, read and update the tables using any spreadsheet
software (e.g. Excel). It supports user defined table sort similar
to ORDER BY, auto incremented ID numbers, limitation and joins
similar to LIMIT and LEFT OUTER JOIN. With simple PHP scripts
(samples provided), user-friendly displays are easy to create.
